I hope 2026 has not been too crazy for you and you’re getting to rest and recover still from the busy holiday season. Unfortunately, things have been crazy here and I was dealing with a personal thing all week, so I don’t have a ton to share today but I have a few small things!
What I’ve been playing
I, like most everyone, played Animal Crossing pretty intensely from 2020 until about 2022. This week, with the release of the 3.0 update, I was compelled to boot it up again for the first time in several years and it was such a throwback to be back on my island again. So far I really like the new hotel content and have enjoyed decorating the rooms. I’m especially proud of my Japanese themed room! With the way things were this week, having a relaxing activity where I just decorate and make things pretty has been so soothing for my stressed brain.
Another game I’ve been playing a ton of and enjoying lately is Marvel Rivals. Admittedly I’ve been playing it pretty consistently for the past year (some might even say I’m addicted 😅), but again it’s another good game for a stressful week where you can just turn your brain off and play as your favorite Marvel character. Recently they released a Lady Loki skin and since I play Loki a ton I naturally bought it and have been playing her in like every match.

What I’ve been reading
It’s been a personal goal of mine to read all of Junji Ito’s work, and this week I finished reading Tomie which has been on my list forever. I really enjoyed it, and because he wrote Tomie over such a long period of time, I especially loved seeing how his art style changed and became more detailed over the years, until in the last few stories you could really see how he landed on his classic signature art style.
I was doing some research to see if there’s other Tomie related content and stories, and it looks like there’s a ton of live action movie adaptations from the 90s and early 2000s so I will probably have to watch at least a couple of those. I did end up watching the Tomie episode of Netflix’s “Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Takes of the Macabre” anime and it was a pretty good adaptation of the “Photo” chapter of the manga.
I also saw there’s a makeup company that just did a Tomie collab and I low key want one of these gorgeous blushes.
