I can’t believe it’s finally September. It was such a magical summer and I’m sad it’s over, but also excited to be in my favorite time of year.

What I did this week

This past weekend we made our annual visit to the Ren Faire. Normally we just show up, walk around, and shop, but this year we decided to participate in some of the super cool events that our local Ren Faire offers. Since we love birds, we thought it would be fun to try the Hawk Walk. It was such a special experience! We listened to a presentation and learned a little about the history of falconry (a sport that is at least 5,000 years old), then had the opportunity to spend some time up close with a hawk (specifically an Augur Buzzard). We had such a wonderful time and learned that our Faire also has a nighttime bird experience so we will be doing that next year for sure.

Also, I think it’s safe to say that autumn is finally in the air! The temps have been so much cooler the last few weeks here in the Midwest and some of the leaves are already changing colors, so I am in full fall mode. I decorated the house for Halloween and cleaned and seasoned my Smith & Clark cauldron, so now she’s all shiny and ready to go for cooking soups this fall and winter.

What I listened to

I’ve mentioned this before on social media, but one of my new favorite rituals is listening to the new episode of the podcast As the Season Turns at the beginning of every month. Every episode is such a calming, grounding experience that shares music, folklore, and information pertaining to each month. I’ve found it’s such a lovely way to set the mood and really enjoy living in the present and observing our always changing earth.

What I loved

I found a bunch of videos of this specific Evil Queen performer at Disneyland and I’m absolutely obsessed with her. Whatever Disney is paying her isn’t enough.
