Does anyone else feel like August went by so quickly? Seriously, what happened.

What I’m looking forward to

I love the V/H/S series, every entry is like a fun spooky candy-filled treat, and the trailer for this year’s entry, V/H/S/Halloween, just dropped and I absolutely cannot wait. I’m extra excited for this entry because one of my favorite artists, Micheline Pitt, (who is one of the creators of my favorite clothing line) directed a segment.

What I loved

I saw a couple posts this week sharing the iconic Mugler La Chimére dress from the Fall/Winter 1997 collection and it got me obsessed about this dress all over again. This work of art is one of my all time favorite dresses, the level of craftsmanship always blows me away every time I see it. The colors, the textures, and the silhouette are truly breathtaking, this is an absolute masterpiece.

I can’t remember if this has been officially confirmed or if this is my own suspicion, but Queen Narissa’s dress in Enchanted absolutely had to be inspired by La Chimére. The inspiration would make total sense as La Chimére absolutely evokes the imagery of a dragon with the fur, scales, and iridescent beetle-like coloring.

Moving over to indie fashion, I am in awe of this hauntingly beautiful little film announcing Nuit Clothing Atelier’ Fall/Winter ‘25 collection. I can’t wait to see what this collection looks like because the vibes are immaculate.

What I read

I found the fantastic article “Why America Still Needs Punk Rock” and I highly recommend you take some time to read it. It’s a bit long but it’s an excellent walk through the history of punk music, it’s role in the political landscape over the last several decades, the rich zine culture, and more. As someone who has loved punk, rock, metal, and other alternative genres of music for most of my life, I really enjoyed this deep dive into the history of the music and culture, and the reminder of its significance and need to keep this scene alive.

“In times like these, punk is both an affirmation and an intellectual reckoning. There’s a comfort in knowing that previous generations have also been disgusted with the state of the world, and a hope that we might learn from their successes and failures. By studying punk, I learn about a rich tradition of oppositional thinkers who, discontent with embracing the cookie-cutter lives and ideas sanctioned by mainstream society, constructed an alternative culture they could call their own.”
