What I’m reading

I recently picked up How to Kill a Witch by Zoe Venditozzi and Claire Mitchell, the women behind the Witches of Scotland campaign. Over the past couple of years I’ve been learning about witch trials throughout history, and I really love and appreciate Claire and Zoe’s work to bring focus to the especially violent and tragic Scottish Witch Trials of the 17th century. It’s so important to learn history so we aren’t doomed to repeat it, and unfortunately there’s so many things from the Witch Trails playbook that we still see being used today. I’m only a couple chapters in, but so far this is a very sobering but informative read.

Earlier in the year, Witches of Scotland also released an official memorial tartan, which is so beautiful. It’s a creative and beautiful living memorial to honor those who’s lives were taken and did not receive adequate justice.

What I loved

After hearing so many wonderful things about Heretic Parfum for so long, I finally ordered my first sample set and I received it this week. I am usually so picky about perfumes, I feel like most of the time they don’t actually smell like the description, or they have a chemical like smell I don’t enjoy. So my expectations were pretty low for these. However, I have to say that I loved ALL of them, they were all beautiful and unique and I was super impressed.

My two favorites were definitely Coeur Noir (Rosewood, Labdanum, Madagascar Vanilla) and Nosferatu (Lilac, Ambrette, Petrichor, Violet Absolute, Orris Concrete, Cypriol, Vegan Ambergris, Oud, Labdanum). Coeur Noir is sweet and sultry and Nosferatu is an atmospheric floral. If you haven’t tried Heretic yet and you love unique scents that also aren’t too crazy niche, I highly recommend you give them a try! I’m already excited to place my next order.

Speaking of buying things, I recently fell down the rabbit hole that is Skullpanda and I had to buy the Wednesday one because I need a bit of cuteness and whimsy in my life right now 😆 I just keep staring at her on my bag and I feel like I maybe need to make cute accessories and clothes for her or something.

I’ve also gotten really inspired by how people style their bags. In a world that desperately wants people to follow trends and lose our sense of uniqueness, I love the embrace of whimsy and personal expression lately.
